BRIDGING THE GAP
A free day conference offering revision tips, exam prep advice and mentorship to Black A-Level students to support you in preparing for your upcoming exams.
CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS
The best bits of Bridging the Gap!
SUBJECT-SPECIFIC SESSIONS
Students took part in subject-specific sessions for their stated preferences in both A-Level/IB courses and university disciplines. Young Black Teachers Network, Black Teachers Connect & many volunteer tutors assisted us with the teaching sessions, where students were able to go through difficult past paper questions or gain helpful revision & exam technique advice. Our university student & graduate helpers also gave comprehensive, relatable and honest advice about their courses. Our phrase of the day: no questions are off limits!
LUNCHTIME AND GROUP ACTIVITIES
Of course, we didn't disappoint when it came to lunch-time - all attendees were treated to some steaming pizza, courtesy of our host university! We also enjoyed many group challenges and mini competitions in between our academic sessions. Well done to the winning team on your victory (let's see if you can hold onto the title at the Summer Link-Up!)
YOUR TIME TO ASK QUESTIONS
We put together a friendly and engaging panel of recent graduates to help answer questions on their time before, at & post-university. To encourage students to get involved, we limited set questions from the moderator in order to prioritise audience requests and even introduced an 'anonymous' feature on our question submission platform - luckily, the phrase of the day still came into play and we were able to have very honest and informative conversations on results day and early university realities!
STAYING CONNECTED WITH STUDENTS
FACILITATOR FOLLOW-UP
The Blueprint Project’s email account and social media will be available after the conference for students to stay in touch with us and contact us should they have any further queries.
SUMMER LINK UP
We hope to organise a catch up session in the summer for the students after results day. This will be a more relaxed opportunity for us to follow up with the attendees and address any further concerns, as well as for them to socialise and create more connections.
CONNECTING STUDENTS WITH THEIR ACS
We want to put students in touch with the African & Caribbean Societies at their future universities. This will enable them to form relationships with current students from similar backgrounds and get to know the culture of the university before they start.
